A Valentine’s Day Giveaway on CommercialFishingMom.com!

Is your commercial fisherman home for Valentine’s Day? No? Well, don’t worry; you aren’t alone. Neither is mine!

George is rarely home for Valentine’s Day. Way back in the day, he would plan ahead and have a dozen roses sent to me. Twelve years ago, ten years ago…I could always count on those flowers! In fact, I looked forward on Valentine’s Day to vacuuming, dusting, and making everything clean and beautiful in our home in preparation for those roses.

It’s been a while since then, though. Clean and sanitize the house? Light a special candle? Make room for roses? Yeah, right! I’ll be lucky if I get to the dishes or put folded laundry for three children (and me) put away in drawers and closets.

But, hey! I’m not complaining. I don’t get hung up on Valentine’s Day. And I know that you don’t, either, because we are tough and that’s how we roll.

In honor of all commercial fishing wives, girlfriends, and mothers on this day, I’m offering a special Valentine’s Day Giveaway.

Yes! I am giving away three free copies of my book, Captain of Her Crew: The Commercial Fishing Mom’s Guide to Navigating Life at Home. All you have to do is leave a comment, send a message through my blog’s contact form, or connect with me via Facebook or Twitter.

You will have the option of receiving a free PDF or a paperback copy of the book. If you already own a copy or have made contact with me before, you are still more than welcome to participate! I know we all have friends and acquaintances who would enjoy the book.

I’m getting a late start on the day, so the Valentine’s Day Giveaway will stay open to entries until tomorrow (February 15) at 4:00 p.m.!

I look forward to hearing from you and I wish each of you a Happy Valentine’s Day. I will be sharing a heart-shaped pizza from Papa Murphy’s and presents with the little ones, followed by books in bed (Ramona the Pest and Runaway Ralph).

By the way…while I did not receive roses this year, G did plan ahead and sent cards to all of the children and me. Each card included a $1 bill….even mine!

Love to you all!

  1. I’m on my own for Valentine is away in Dutch. 3 years and counting, I received those lovely red roses this morning….like clockwork:)

  2. Jen,things could always be worse,Shelly had a brain bleed in Dec 2011 and has been in hospitals and nursing homes ever since, these have been my first 2 Valentines days alone in 29 years,I went over today and left a card in her lap as she was sleeping hard and I couldnt bring myself to wake her up, I wish I could give her roses and she could enjoy them.I know I havn’t been on your blog and commented since all this happened.

  3. Jen,
Yes. Valentines Day is pretty lonely around here too. Zed and I were just trying to remember the last time we actually spent Valentines day together. It has been a few years! Next year we should have a Valentine party for all separated fishing families!
I hope you are all well,
    Robin

  4. Whoa, Ronnie! Wow. I was not expecting that. I am so sorry! I can’t believe this happened to Shelly, your amazing wife and partner! I cannot imagine what it must be like going from nursing homes and hospitals all this time. Will she ever be able to come home? Please let us know. I wondered where you had gone! Again, I am so very sad and sorry about this.

    • Jen,for about 6 months I was bringing her home every Sat and taking her back that eve,200 miles and 3 1/2 hrs driving time, but she has been fighting pneumonia since Christmas and sometime after I dropped her off Christmas night and the Sunday before New years she had a stroke,I did get her moved to a place only 12 miles from the house,a 5 star rated rehab and nursing home and had two good visits with her this week, No she will never be able to come home again to live and right now I am not sure I will get to bring her back even for a day. Tough determined lady though, she suffocated twice in the hospital while still in a light coma, collapsed both lungs,we had he in one of the best rehab hospitals in Jacksonville Fla and after a couple of months they had her talking fairly well and able to walk 100 steps with assistance and was transferred to a nursing home last June, they let her fall after 36 hours of being there,8 stitches just over her right eye and it ended her rehab, been downhill ever since, sorry to go on so long. Been a tough 14 months.

  5. Robin, we should definitely do that! I almost did call you a few days ago to see if you had plans and the kids could play. I miss you! We should still take that road trip to Westport if we get a chance! What fun that would be for everyone!
